Work With Me

The Lie I Couldn't See (Until Someone Pointed It Out)

It's hard to spot the lie in something you believe. - Martha Beck

I remember the first time I read that quote. It made me stop.

At the time, I was deep in the lie of believing that you don't rest until your work is done.

The result? In the early days of my business, I worked constantly. I was the head of marketing, sales, operations, admin, IT support... and the worker bee actually doing all the work.

Weekends, weeknights, holidays. All fair game.

I couldn't spot the lie because I was knee-deep in the belief that rest is earned. That it was something you had to deserve, not something you simply needed and deserved.

Until I got coached on it.

The coaching shone a spotlight not just on the lie but on the impact of it.

How my lack of rest was undermining my ability to think creatively and strategically in my business. How my potential clients weren't getting the best of me because I was running on empty, exhausted before I even showed up. How I kept getting sick so often because my immune system was operating on low battery

And you know what was frustrating about the whole situation? The lie dates back to Puritan times when working until you dropped meant you were morally superior. It was literally part of a value system designed to glorify suffering.

Once aware, I could laugh at how ridiculous it sounded.

It wasn't even my belief. It was inherited programming.

But I couldn't see it. I couldn't see how that ancient and irrelevant ideology was woven into how I showed up in my business every single day.

That's the power of coaching.

A good coach spots the lies you unknowingly tell yourself and challenges their validity.

They hold up a mirror to your blind spots. They question what you've accepted as truth.

They help you see the water you're swimming in.

The decision to keep believing the lie? That's always yours, even after coaching. But now you're aware of it. You're choosing consciously instead of operating on autopilot.

Why I still have a coach.

I'm a coach, and I still have my own coach.

Not because I'm not good at what I do. It's because you can't read the label from inside the jar. When you're buried in a belief, when it's part of your operating system, you simply can't see it for what it is.

Beliefs are like software running in the background on a computer. They impact everything - how we think, feel, and behave - often without us ever noticing they're there.

So here's my questions for you:

  • What lies are you operating under in your business that you have zero awareness of?
  • What beliefs are running your show from behind the scenes, keeping you overworking, over-functioning, and on the brink of burnout?
  • What would become possible if you could spot those lies and choose something different?

If you're ready to find out, let's talk. Because the first step to change is always awareness—and that's exactly what coaching provides.  Book your Strategy Call with me HERE.
