Gratitude is the Attitude...

Something that has helped me enjoy my life so much has been my daily practice of sitting in silence and feeling grateful. My mum used to tell me as a child to count my blessings (usually when I was complaining about something), and as an adult I’ve heard an additional twist to the concept of gratitude by Dr Joe Dispenza who says that “gratitude is the ultimate state of receivership”.

Being grateful ahead of time signals the Universe/God/Spirit/Source (i.e. substitute whatever belief system applies to you) that you’re ready to receive.

I love to intertwine my gratitude practice with what I already have in my life that fills me with appreciation, combined with anticipated gratitude for the new experiences I am yet to encounter. The result is my brain can’t tell what’s real or not real yet because I feel grateful for all of it!
In this holiday season, if you celebrate, I would like to express my thankfulness for the time you give me each week to read my musings and thoughts. Time is a precious resource, and I appreciate the pockets of time you dedicate to browsing my blog.

My seasonal gift to you is to share one of my thoughts I consciously choose to start my day with every day of the year – my life is a gift. I can find so many reasons to believe this thought when I think of my family, friends, pets, colleagues and clients (not necessarily in that order) before I even start on the beauty of nature just outside my door.

How is your life a gift? Even if you are struggling at this time, what can you find in your life that makes you feel grateful? The smell of your first cup of coffee or that first sip of morning tea. An unexpected hug from your child or partner. A sloppy lick from dog who adores you. The beauty in a song or piece of music. The peacefulness you experience in nature. The car in traffic that lets you cut in. Start looking and fill up your cup each day with gratitude.

Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life, is the foundation for all abundance – Eckhart Tolle.
